All of our wonderful workshops are held in the space below the gallery with only stair access.
Each one is designed for ages 18+ unless otherwise stated.
Tea and cake will be served on all of our workshops, so let us know of any dietary requirements.

No refunds within one month of chosen workshop start date. Should there not be minimum numbers for workshops to run within two weeks full refunds will be given and students notified.

Life Drawing with Oliver Lovley at Focus Gallery

Exercise your drawing or start as you mean to go on studying the human figure with Oliver Lovley BA Hons, SGFA in the comfortable surroundings of the downstairs gallery space at Focus Gallery in Nottingham. At each session you can choose to receive individual guidance from Oliver regarding mark-making, observational drawing, composition and other practical aspects of drawing. The drop-in style sessions will be designed to develop your individual artistic interests and allow you to grow as an expressive artist at your own pace.

2½ hour 'drop-in' session from 6:30pm to 9:00pm every Tuesday evening (arrive whenever you wish during the session)
£13 per person.
Art materials and tuition included. Any drawing ability welcome. A different model each week.
Tea, coffee and biscuits provided. You are welcome to bring your own alcohol or soft drinks.

Parking outside the gallery on Derby Road from 6:00pm for about £2. The Gallery is directly opposite the excellent Hand and Heart pub on Derby Road.

Stained glass with McEwan stained glass

A workshop learning how to cut, foil and solder glass into a beautiful art pieces perfect for your home.

Join Jen from McEwan Stained Glass on a step by step project to make your own stained glass sun catcher, using copper foil technique also known as Tiffany style. Jen will bring her book full of patterns for you to choose from. Suitable for beginners and more experienced students.

Skills taught and demonstrated will include safe glass working: cutting and breaking, use of electric grinder, foiling and soldering the pieces together.

All materials and hand tools are provided including a wide selection of opaque and cathedral glass. Your final design will be completed on the day for you to take home.

 

Summer Jewellery School AM

5th June -

This is a six week class in all things jewellery. Suitable for beginners up to more experienced makers. We'll cover all the basics of silversmithing and an introduction to jewellers tools and techniques to allow you to create your own pieces of jewellery and metal work. Working in a fully equipped jewellery studio you can try your hand at sawing, drilling, hammering, texturing, enamelling, torch soldering and fusing, finishing, polishing and more. Learn new skills or bring along your own projects to work on. Alys will be on hand to demonstrate techniques, guide and advise you. All tools and equipment are provided. Aluminium, brass and copper sheet and wire and base metal jewellery findings are included in your class fee. Please provide your own silver or purchase it at the class.

Six week pottery course with sarah burton

6th June -
10:30am to 1:00pm

Learn a range of traditional pottery hand-building techniques including slab building, coiling and pinching with local studio potter Sarah Burton on this six consecutive week course. Each session will be a different skill to learn and perfect to get stuck into and try your hand at.

£150pp for the full 6 classes including refreshments held on Thursdays 10.30-13.00 beginning 7th March - 4th April and later in the year beginning 6th June - 11th July.
 

Glass Beach Huts with Fizgig Glass

8th June -
2:00pm to 5:00pm

Join Anna from Fizgig Glass on a step by step project to design, make and decorate a lovely glass beach hut.

Skills taught and demonstrated will include safe glass working: cutting and breaking, use of electric grinder, hand finishing and help with design and assembly.

All materials and hand tools are provided including a wide selection of Bullseye opaque, translucent and accessory glass. Your final design will be kiln fired and presented on a wooden base with decorative candle.

Multi Materials Brooches & Pendants with Alys Power

29th June -

Who is this class suitable for?

Beginners and more experienced makers.

What will I make?

You will make a composition of layered plastic, wood, metal and other materials to be worn as a brooch or pendant

What will I learn?

We will explore the properties of different materials and how to cut, shape and finish them. We'll look at design inspiration and composition, layering our different material to create something unique. We'll learn some different cold connection methods such as tack riveting, tube riveting, stitching and jump rings.

What is included?

All tools, equipment and materials are provided.  If you have any materials you would like to use please feel free to bring them along with you.

Stamped Metal Cuffs with Alys Power

13th July -
10:30am to 4:30pm

Who is this class suitable for?

Beginners to intermediate makers

What will I make?

You will make a stamped metal cuff, earrings or pendant. You will have the opportunity to carve your own stamp designs as well.

What will I learn?

You will learn to cut and shape metal and prepare the surface for stamping. You'll be shown how to use steel punches and hammers to add texture, text and pattern to the metal and how to mark the metal or stamping to create you own designs. You''ll add stamping ink to the design to enhance the stamped surface and learn to polish and finish your pieces for a professional finish. We'll also look at how to shape and carve steel to create our own metal punches to design your own patterns.

What is included?

All tools, equipment and materials are provided.  

Three Rings In A Day with Alys Power

27th July -
10:30am to 4:30pm

Who is this class suitable for?

Beginners to intermediate makers

What will I make?

You will make at least three solid silver rings.

What will I learn?

You will learn to measure and cut a length of silver wire accurately and to use a hand held torch to solder a neat join. You'll be shown how to shape, texture and polish to create three rings to be worn together or seperately.

What is included?

Your class fee includes enough silver to create three rings with more available to purchase on the day if you want to make more.

Wax Carving with Loree Bologna Two Day workshop

7th September -
10:30am to 4:30pm

Join Loree on this wonderful two-part workshop into wax carving. You will need to attend both sessions to finish your piece/s of jewellery so must be available on Saturday 23rd February and Saturday 9th March, or Saturday 7th September and Saturday 21st September.

In this introductory course you will learn some of the basic wax carving skill, which will allow you to design and make at least one piece of jewellery.

You will learn how to carve, file shape and texture a piece of wax which will then be cast into the metal of your choice. There will be an additional cost for your chosen cast metal, which will be based on the weight of your piece so please take this into consideration (charges for casting will be at trade value).

The waxes will then be sent off to be cast and on the second part of the class you will learn how to finish the raw casting into a beautiful unique creation. Cake and refreshments served but please bring your own lunch.

£150 per person inclusive of both days.
