All of our wonderful workshops are held in the space below the gallery with only stair access.
Each one is designed for ages 18+ unless otherwise stated.
Tea and cake will be served on all of our workshops, so let us know of any dietary requirements.

No refunds within one month of chosen workshop start date. Should there not be minimum numbers for workshops to run within two weeks full refunds will be given and students notified.

Three Rings In A Day with Alys Power

26th January -
10:30am to 4:30pm

THIS WORKSHOP IS NOW FULL

Who is this class suitable for? Beginners to intermediate makers

What will I make? You will make at least three solid silver rings.

What will I learn? You will learn to measure and cut a length of silver wire accurately and to use a hand held torch to solder a neat join. You'll be shown how to shape, texture and polish to create three rings to be worn together or seperately.

What is included? Your class fee includes enough silver to create three rings with extra available to purchase on the day if you want to make more.

Layered Silver Pendants with Alys Power

16th February -
10:30am to 4:30pm

Who is this class suitable for? Beginners to intermediate makers

What will I make? You will make a sterling silver necklace made up of different handmade elements. You can choose to work to one of my design sheets or to come up with your own design. Each necklace will be unique as you select and layer your own design.

What will I learn? You will experiment with different design ideas and come up with a uniques design to suit you. You'll learn to cut and shape metal and add texture using a rolling mill, hammers and stamps. You'll learn how to form metal using doming blocks and how to create solid and open forms. We'll use hand torches to solder pieces together. We will explore different metal finishes including polishing, oxidising and matt finishes.

What is included? Your class fee includes enough silver to create a necklace. Each student will have a sheet of silver measuring 3 x 4cm, a 16" or 18" chain and  assorted wire and findings to complete the necklace. Extra silver will be available to purchase on the day if required.

How to Approach galleries artist talk

20th February -
6:00pm to 8:00pm

Join a group of like minded creatives on this workshop as we look into the do's and don't's of how to approach a gallery professionally and appropriately. What to send out when and how to get noticed in this competitive market.

Wax Carving with Loree Bologna Two Day workshop

23rd February -
10:30am to 4:30pm

Join Loree on this wonderful two-part workshop into wax carving. You will need to attend both sessions to finish your piece/s of jewellery so must be available on Saturday 23rd February and Saturday 9th March, or Saturday 7th September and Saturday 21st September.

In this introductory course you will learn some of the basic wax carving skill, which will allow you to design and make at least one piece of jewellery.

You will learn how to carve, file shape and texture a piece of wax which will then be cast into the metal of your choice. There will be an additional cost for your chosen cast metal, which will be based on the weight of your piece so please take this into consideration (charges for casting will be at trade value).

The waxes will then be sent off to be cast and on the second part of the class you will learn how to finish the raw casting into a beautiful unique creation. Cake and refreshments served but please bring your own lunch.

£150 per person inclusive of both days.

We'll cover all the basics of silver smithing and an introduction to jewellers tools and techniques to allow you to create your own pieces of jewellery and metal work. Working in a fully equipped jewellery studio you can try your hand at sawing, drilling, hammering, texturing, enamelling, torch soldering and fusing, finishing, polishing and more. Learn new skills or bring along your own projects to work on. Alys will be on hand to demonstrate techniques, guide and advise you.

Stone Setting at Nottingham Jewellery School

Traditional Stone Setting with Dave Gelder

2nd March -
10:30am to 4:30pm

This workshop runs over six hours and covers settings such as claw, rub over and rivet setting. In addition to the standard settings offered in this workshop Dave will be covering correct practice with hand tools. This vastly improves not only your setting skills but all your jewellery work as a whole.

Chinese Brush Painting with Stephanie Morris

2nd March -

Have you ever wanted to try Chinese brush painting before? This workshop is suitable for all levels and abilities so come and enjoy a relaxing day using traditional Chinese art materials (provided) to create a painting in beautiful Chinese papers or card.

Six week pottery course with sarah burton

7th March -
10:30am to 1:00pm

Learn a range of traditional pottery hand-building techniques including slab building, coiling and pinching with local studio potter Sarah Burton on this six consecutive week course. Each session will be a different skill to learn and perfect to get stuck into and try your hand at.

£150pp for the full 6 classes including refreshments held on Thursdays 10.30-13.00 beginning 7th March - 4th April and later in the year beginning 6th June - 11th July.
 

six week linocut course with Nancy Power

7th March -
2:00pm to 4:30pm

You will cover all the basics of lino cutting; preparing the block, tool handling and safety, inking techniques and paper choices.

All tools, lino, inks and papers will be provided, all you need to bring is a prepared image. Guidance notes on images will be sent to you once the course is booked.

Small class sizes allow time for personal guidance and space for every student to progress at their own pace.

Week one: Single block print – Design and carve a balanced image and print by hand and with a portable press. Try out various inking techniques to enhance your image. Print up to 10 proofs on various papers and take them home with you!
Weeks two + three: Multi block print – Create a multi block print with two or three blocks. Learn how to transfer the image onto all blocks and how to register the blocks to print perfectly every time. Play with colour choices and inking techniques.
Weeks four, five + six: Reduction print – Learn how to plan and execute a three or four layer reduction print using just one block. Print a small edition to take home and wow your friends!

Suitable for beginners and those who wish to refresh their skills.

Enamelled Pendants & Brooches with Alys Power

Who is this class suitable for?

Beginners to intermediate makers

What will I make?

You will begin by making a selection of samples and experiemntal pieces. Based on these you'll make a final brooch or pedant or two

What will I learn?

You will learn to shape and clean copper sheet. You'll learn to apply layers of glass powder and to kiln fire the pieces to fuse the materials together. You'll explore colour, pattern, layering, to create your own designs.

What is included?

All tools, equipment and materials are provided.  

Wire Wrapping With Angela Askins

23rd March -
10:30am to 4:30pm

Come and spend a day making beautiful wire wrapped jewellery with Angela Askins at the Nottingham Jewellery School.
In this first wire wrapping workshop you will learn how to handle the materials and wire, make simple shapes, attach beads and leave with a completed pair of earings and a bangle. You will be using copper, silver plated and brass wire. All equipment, wire and beads is provided but if sterling silver is required this will be at extra cost. Refreshments are provided during the day, please tell the school or tutor of any dietary requirements. 

Alternative Stone Setting with Dave Gelder

23rd March -
10:30am to 4:30pm

This workshop runs over six hours and focuses on not only making an alternative setting but also cutting a soft stone to fit. Basic jewellery making foundations are needed to complete this workshop but again the importance of correct hand techniques will be part of the focus.

Copper Spoons with Alys Power

30th March -
10:30am to 4:30pm

Who is this class suitable for?

Beginners to intermediate makers

What will I make?

A handmade spoon in copper. Enough material are available to make more than one spoon if time allows.

What will I learn?

You will learn to use a piercing saw to shape copper sheet. You'll use a hand held torch to solder a handle to the spoon. You'll explore different mark making techniques - stamping, roll printing and hammering to add detail to your design and learn to use a hammer and stake to shape the bowl of the spoon. You'll learn how to file, sand and polish your spoon for a beautiful finish.

All tools, equipment and materials are provided.
