Focus Gallery runs the Nottingham Jewellery School downstairs so you to learn new skills and have an enjoyable day creating. Cake and refreshments are served during the workshop. Workshops are for 18 years + unless stated. All workshops are held in our ground floor workshop with only stair access. No refunds within one month of chosen workshop.

Fold Formed silver Pendant & Earrings with Helen Domleo

Come and spend a fun filled day with Helen exploring the world of fold forming metal. This is an exciting technique developed by Charles Lewton-Brain in the 1980’s where you fold and hammer sheet -metal, resulting in organic natural shapes. Helen uses this technique to obtain her signature seedpod and leaf jewellery.
All tools and materials for up to 1 pendant and 1 pair of earrings will be provided as well as some copper to learn the basics with. Silver will be available to purchase on the day.

Little Gems Silver Cabochon Ring

Little Gems Childrens Workshops: Now two timeslots: 10-12 or 1-3pm

Enjoy spending a few hours together creating a beautiful silver gem set ring each. Use jewellery tools to create a ring silver wire, soldering to secure, hammering to texture and choosing a real gemstone to set and finish. These are for children 10 plus but if you feel your child is mature enough to handle tools then we will accept age 7 youngest as adults must be present for the workshop.

Silver Clay with Vivien Bowling

Join Vivien in this one day workshop into the art of silver clay.

Throughout the day you will create various pieces using different techniques associated with silver clay, including kiln and torch firing practices.
You will be able to experiment with different projects that will highlight areas such as texturing, setting, riveting, carving and much more.

Perfect for beginners or intermediates, no experience necessary. Refreshments provided throughout the day. Please bring your own lunch.

Cuttlefish Casting with Lauren Bell Brown

Spend the day learning the ancient art of cuttlefish casting with a contemporary twist! Cuttlefish casting was traditionally used in Mediterranean countries dating back to the seventh century. This low technology process is used by jewellery designer/maker Lauren to create her unique one off pieces of jewellery.
In this workshop you will prepare, carve and cast your own unique piece of pewter jewellery. This is suitable for those with no previous knowledge or experience of jewellery making.
Basic materials are included in the cost, an additional cost applies if you require your design to be cast in silver. Just bring your enthusiasm and imagination!
Refreshments provided. Please bring your own lunch.

Redesign and Recreate your own Heirloom with Roseanna Croft (TWO DAY COURSE)

Have you got some broken rings or chains or perhaps some jewellery you cannot wear anymore? Maybe you have inherited a ring you don’t like or is too worn to wear. Don’t let it gather dust in your jewellery box - come and learn how to remodel it for yourself. An exciting 2-day course on how to redesign your old jewellery and give it new life. This course is for people who have some knowledge of jewellery making as we will be using some techniques that require experience. Over the 2 consectutive Saturdays (Jan 13th and Jan 20th) you will review your old jewellery, get creative and decide on a beautiful new design. You will then go through steps such as melting down and reforming your metal, setting stones if you wish (only certain setting techniques covered). Two weeks before the course you will have a Skype conversation with Roseanna to discuss anything extra (additional costs may incurr for extra metal/stones etc). We will only be reworking silver and gold.

Electroforming with Hayley Priestley

Electroforming is the process of creating a metal layer of a desired thickness onto the surface of otherwise organic items.  On this introductory day, we will discuss the chemical process and safety of electroforming, set up the electroplating system, before preparing various items to proceed with electroforming (with copper) to a suitable standard.

Various interesting items will be provided for the purpose of electroforming, however, you are invited to bring along small items of memorabilia with you, such as a child’s dummy or first shoe, a tooth, a favourite flower (which should be pre-dried).  We will aim to create jewellery with suitable items so that you have something wearable at the end of the day.

Enamelling on Copper with Alys Power

3rd February -

A really fun day with plenty of techniques to try your hand at, enamelling is easy and addictive. In this workshop you will learn to produce wonderful layers of colour and pattern using sifted enamel onto copper.
Create unique and decorative pieces that can be made into a pieces of wearable jewellery.

Tea and cake provided but bring your own lunch.

Wax Carving with Loree Bologna

10th February -
10:30am to 4:30pm

Join Loree on this wonderful two-part workshop into wax carving. You will need to attend both sessions to finish your piece/s of jewellery so must be available on Saturday 10th February and Saturday 24th February.
In this introductory course you will learn some of the basic wax carving skill, which will allow you to design and make at least one piece of jewellery.
You will learn how to carve, file shape and texture a piece of wax which will then be cast into the metal of your choice. There will be an additional cost for your chosen cast metal, which will be based on the weight of your piece so please take this into consideration (charges for casting will be at trade value).
The waxes will then be sent off to be cast and on the second part of the class you will learn how to finish the raw casting into a beautiful unique creation. Cake and refreshments served but please bring your own lunch.

£150 per person inclusive of both days.

We'll cover all the basics of silver smithing and an introduction to jewellers tools and techniques to allow you to create your own pieces of jewellery and metal work. Working in a fully equipped jewellery studio you can try your hand at sawing, drilling, hammering, texturing, enamelling, torch soldering and fusing, finishing, polishing and more. Learn new skills or bring along your own projects to work on. Alys will be on hand to demonstrate techniques, guide and advise you.
